***YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER FOR ALL CLASSES/COURSE by registering through the Event Calendar or contacting Linda4success@shaw.ca to let Linda know you are coming and arrange to pay at first class.***

THE PLAN:

  • Learn an effective pole walking technique that suits your needs.
  • Get into the habit of fitness.
  • Find walking buddies, have fun!
  • Persist!
  • Create a legacy of health through fitness with Nordic pole walking for yourself and the people you love around you.
  • Pay the opportunity forward.

Nordic pole walking is HIGHLY EFFECTIVE and HIGHLY DO-ABLE, but to reap the benefits    YOU must DO IT  EFFECTIVELY.

All the classes and courses offered are to HELP YOU BECOME MORE EFFECTIVE with the technique, and HELP YOU FORM A HABIT OF DOING IT.

HOW TO GET STARTED

1.  IF YOU HAVE NEVER POLE WALKED BEFORE, THE VERY FIRST STEP IS A “LEARN” CLASS: TRY IT TO SEE IF YOU LIKE IT!  Go to Event Calendar and find a scheduled LEARN class that suits you and register and pay through the Event Calendar or email Linda to let her know which class you want and pay at first class.   (Linda4success@shaw.ca)  You can borrow Nordixx poles for free for this class, and purchase Nordixx poles at the end of the class if you wish.  $91 includes taxes.  Cash/cheque best, but Visa/MC also available.

(NOTE:  If you have taken a LEARN class in the past but want to refresh, you can take any LEARN class again and refresh your skills.

2.   Most people want to get EFFECTIVE AT THE TECHNIQUE so they can squeeze every molecule of goodness out of this exercise.  If this is you, then go to Event Calendar and find a scheduled SKILL COURSE.  Register and pay through the Event Calendar or email Linda to let her know which class you want and pay at first class.  (Linda4success@shaw.ca)

3.  CREATE A HABIT THAT LEADS TO FITNESS!  Do this in two ways:  join in the free walks and social walks.  Or join a FITNESS COURSE and improve your fitness with a systematic accountable program.  For the FITNESS courses you must have taken a START course as a prerequisite and own your own poles.  For the social walk most people have their own poles and know how to pole walk, HOWEVER if you want to rent poles and get a mini lesson from Linda before the walk, just contact Linda to make arrangeements.  Some of the most enthusiastic pole walkers have started this way.

(keep scrolling down this page for full benefits & details plus participant descriptions)

After teaching over 2500 people, I can say  without a doubt Nordic Style Pole Walking is in a class by itself!

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

  1. CURIOSITY on your part.  Try NPW.   See if you like it.  (Find a LEARN CLASS.) (PS borrow poles for free!)
  2. RESPONSIBILITY on your part to create YOUR improved health.
  3. DESIRE  to create a habit of exercise which is guaranteed to produce results over time.   The prescription for health through fitness with Nordic Pole Walking is a minimum of 3 x 30 minutes each week.  Speed does not matter….fast or slow…both work.  Join a neighbourhood NPW CLUB or NPW fitness group and make it fun and social.

WE HAVE BUILT THE STRUCTURES TO HELP YOU EACH STEP OF THE WAY.

WHY NORDIC POLE WALKING?

Whatever your age, do you  worry that what you do or don’t do NOW,

sets you up for your long term health or dis-ease?

Does this sound like you?

SOME OF YOU ARE ADULTS IN THE PRIME OF YOUR LIFE… and you feel helpless as you watch your weight climb, your posture slump.  You are shocked that you have high blood pressure, cholesterol problems, the doctor describes you as pre-diabetic, tests show osteopenia…how did that happen?  You notice your thickening waist…a sign a future disaster.  It’s time to do something but WHAT?  You are pulling your hair out trying to find a convenient and effective solution for your dilemma.

SOME OF YOU HAVE SORE KNEES FROM RUNNING…and you feel frustrated and scared.  Frustrated because you like systematic training for the 10km.    YOUR INTENTION is in the right place but you feel disenfranchised…you’ve done your best…running clinics and boot camps….and it’s left you with sore knees and other injuries.  You feel out of control.  Scared what the future holds for you…because you know too well the health hazards of life with no exercise

SOME OF YOU ARE STUDENTS OR DESK WORKERS…you know the occupational hazard of your job is poor posture, fat butt, tense neck and shoulders, low energy!  You are very busy and maybe not a fitness nut, but you understand that you need to do something.  You need CONVENIENCE and EASY yet effective.   Nordic pole walking is your solution!  Just put on your walking shoes and walk outside your office door into the corridor or parkade or sidewalk.  30 minutes is all you need!  You won’t even work up a sweat so no change of clothes or shower required.  Guaranteed boost of energy and de-stressing of neck/shoulders…every time you go out!

SOME OF YOU ARE SENIORS…how did that happen?  You find yourself with a wide array of health problems, less strength and energy.  But the scariest thought is LOSS OF MOBILITY.  You know where that leads.  You will do anything to stop your world from getting small and closing in on you. You know that when you stop moving health goes downhill fast.  You are willing to do anything to stay mobile, but shaky balance makes mobility difficult and falling is a real problem.  You are a realist, but still desperate seek a solution that you can ACTUALLY DO and that will work.

REGARDLESS OF YOUR AGE, SPEED, OR NEED, it doesn’t have to be this way.

2) There is a solution that works!

I WOULDN’T HAVE BELIEVED IT IF I HADN’T TRIED IT!  Here’s what happened:  some of you know that I competed for Canada in the Olympic Games in 1976.  I WAS BIONIC!!!  But tragedy struck in 1989 when I was a victim of a car accident that reduced me to the lowest level of fitness.  I had massive soft tissue damage, PTSS, FMS, CRS, and a brain injury.  It could have been worse.  The first year I couldn’t really move and I lost all my sweet fitness.  I wanted more for my life than this sorry state, and even though I dropped through all the legal and medical cracks, I vowed to find a solution.  I wanted a healthy life again.  I physically staggered for 10 years because my balance was screwed and my muscles not working.  I battled depression and set-backs.  It took 10 years to figure out the physical and biochemical problems, and then 5 more years to heal the brain injury.  It took 15 years to put Humpty-Dumpty back together again!  Then menopause hit.  Damn.

THE GIFTS FROM TRAGEDY?  Humbleness.  Empathy and compassion for others.  Respect for persistence.  And the astounding experience of how willing the body is to improve if given the right tools!  Every person I work with now, regardless of their specific situation,  feels my empathy and positivity because I know how it feels to to be standing in your shoes!  This is what people love about me. This makes me an extraordinary teacher and coach!  What I know for sure is that THE FITTER YOU ARE, THE EASIER LIFE IS!   It drives me crazy when people depend on the doctors for  ALL the healing results, and ABDICATE THEIR OWN RESPONSIBILITY TO ACT and do what they can for themselves, especially basic fitness.

DISCOVERING THE SOLUTION THAT WORKS!  Out of the blue, I was invited to be a part of the 2010 Winter Olympic Torch Relay.  Organizers wanted each participant to commit to some fitness program  (hahahaaaa….me?)  and this is what led to the discovery of THE SOLUTION THAT WORKS FOR YOU!  My objective was to look good on TV, so I thought I needed to strengthen my shoulders to carry that heavy torch.  I was already on a walking program.  I heard about Nordic Pole Walking, which at the time  I thought was pretty stupid.  But it would not take any more time, just add it to my walking, and it might strengthen my shoulders.  I watched how they did it on the online videos, but had to tweak the technique to deliver the most results.  Why waste time?  HOWEVER TO MY GREAT SURPRISE, the results that were created by pole walking came fast, and never stopped delivering even 5 years later!

NORDIC POLE WALKING IS THE DISCOVERY THAT CHANGED MY LIFE.

172285367

IT WILL CHANGE YOURS TOO!  And the most beautiful part is that YOU CAN ACTUALLY DO IT, REGARLESS OF YOUR AGE, SPEED OR NEED.  Nordic Pole Walking delivers results for EVERYONE!!!  The fitter you are, the easier life is.

3)  Even though you are struggling right now, it doesn’t have to be that way.

What I do is empower people just like you to create a long lasting LEGACY of health through fitness with Nordic Pole Walking.  I design SIMPLE PROGRAMS THAT REALLY WORK!   Then I EMPOWER YOU  so that the program ACTUALLY WORKS FOR YOU.

I am offering you a new chance at better fitness, something you can actually do that will make a difference.  Regards of your situation now,  the healthier life you dream of is possible.  And remember, whatever your age or situation, the fitter you are, the easier life is!

4)  THREE CRITICAL THINGS MAKE MY PROGRAMS DIFFERENT

  1. I “GET” your NEEDS!
  2. I teach you EFFECTIVE techniques, and help you create A HABIT of fitness.
  3. If you are willing to do your best, RESULTS ARE GUARANTEED!

5)  I CREATE SIMPLE PROGRAMS THAT WILL WORK…. FOR YOU!

  • Learn an effective pole walking technique that suits your needs.
  • Get into the habit of fitness.
  • Pay the opportunity forward.
  • Find walking buddies, have fun!
  • Persist.  NPW is addictive!
  • Create a legacy of health through fitness with Nordic pole walking.
  • Nordic pole walking is The Fastest Way to Fitness!

6)  NORDIC POLE WALKING IS EFFECTIVE & DOABLE, but you have to effectively do it to reap the benefits!  I teach you how to be effective at technique and then offer various programs to help you get in the habit of DOING IT at least 3 x week for 30 minutes.  That’s the scientific based prescription for health.

Search EVENT CALENDAR for programs such as LEARN, SKILL, FITNESS, WALKING GROUPS, ADVENTURE…

Outline of SKILL COURSE:

Class 1:  Review basic steps.  Video before & after.  Identify postural, foot stride, and shoulder problems.  Identify solutions.  Focus on Piston Point-HandStrap effectiveness.  Homework review.  How to strengthen and/or relax key muscles.

Class 2:  Review basic steps.  All about mastering the hill technique!  Video before & after.

Class 3:  Review basic steps and hill technique.  Play with speed, relaxation, and teamwork.  Video before & after.  Grad motivator.

(NOTE:  If you have taken a 3-WEEK SKILL  course  in the past but want to refresh, you can take any 3-WEEK SKILL course again at a reduced rate.  Just talk to LInda.

3.  Now you need to FORM A HABIT OF DOING THIS EXERCISE.  This is the only way to get the benefits.

You have options:

  • Just walk on your own.  Very convenient and stress-free.  Free.
  • Form a neighborhood walking group.  Ask Linda how.  This is a great idea, and easy to do.  Exercise is still convenient, and you will meet new friends in your neighborhood. FREE but takes a little time commitment to set-up.  Worth it!
  • Join a HEALTH ORIENTED COURSE.  For low or high fitness pole walkers.  It’s called THE HILLS course.  It  includes a new route each Saturday, plus tips on how to make your eating simple and effective, and exercises to strengthen the real core muscles and protect long term health of hip and knee joints.  There is a FEE for this course.
  • Every season and every year there may be other options, but go to the EVENT CALENDAR to find and register for something you like.

NOTE:  HOW TO USE CALENDAR…  Click on “month view”.  Scroll down until you find a class you want.  Click on the class to open details.  PRE-REGISTER for a class at the latest by 6:00PM the day before the class is to run.  NOTE:  Some classes are limited to 10 participants for best instruction so REGISTER EARLY.

“Hi Linda,    First of all, the poles. Ah, the poles! They have given me back my mobility, and I am so grateful to them and to you. I can now walk 45 minutes without limping, and without pain. What an improvement in my general well-being! I love the fact that I can get my heart rate up to 120 when striding forth, and I just feel so darned good while using them. Thank you thank you!

Now my husband Dave would like to walk with the poles as well and so I am partly writing to you to find out how I can get a set for him. Could I stop by your house some time with cash in hand? Please let me know what would work for you. I also have three girlfriends who have expressed a real interest in the poles. I’ve given them a basic demo, and we’ll see if that generates further interest in any of them. If so, I’ll contact you at some point to arrange a group lesson. But I won’t force them or try to sell them on the idea – they need to come to it on their own, I think, for it to be effective.

I doubt that my technique is anything close to impressive, but I do know I’m swinging my arms (bra, elevator!) and that I’m swooshing right along. It feels just great.   So many thank you!”  Joan B

Way to go Linda!  You are an inspiration!  I have been doing my Nordic Pole Waling every day now… and love it!  Laura Fellman

Dear Linda, Sorry I can’t join you…I’m on a cruise ship in Mexico…it’s a hard job but someone has to do it 😉  My poles packed beautifully in the bottom  of my suitcase and they are being used doing laps on the promenade deck…4 laps to a  mile 🙂 I love it! Dot Roberts.

“Thank you Linda! I enjoyed the private lesson very much and yes, I am excited. We are now in Edmonton and I can practice with my poles!”  Joan M

“Linda, Had a wonderful time today starting to learn/master a new skill. Thank you for your huge encouragement and positive, easy to understand teaching. I’m registering for the 3-week technique course now.”  Angela

Dear Linda, The individual attention you give is really valuable and helps me learn more quickly.  I like your informative and sometimes playful style of teaching. There was good information.  I really enjoyed it, Linda.  Thanks.”  Maureen  B

“Hi Linda, Just to let you know, it helps Larry walk/exercise more with less arthritis pain – and after enough classes (3 + 2 audits), it became fun. Thanks again!”  Alice H

“Hi Linda,   Thank-you so much for such a great course! You are an amazing instructor & it felt so good to “get it”.”   Lorna P

“Hello Linda,  I just wanted to thank you for the thoughtful and thorough way you instructed me in the use of my urban walking poles on Monday.  I had no idea how much new information I would learn. You are an excellent instructor and I am so grateful you are available to share your valuable knowledge.  I feel very encouraged.”   Sincerely,  Mary Ann K

“Hi Linda: The 3-week course gave me enough solid technique to confidently go forward, as I’ve wanted to learn NPW for years. I need upper body strength + fitness (for tennis) so sought a low hassle activity (time, equipment) doable  most of the year, so excuses would be hard to find. You did well making the class was fun, your instruction was good + enthusiasm great.”  Alice H

“Hi Linda, What I liked best? The stickers! Just kidding -So, really? Just knowing that I could get out and feel like I am starting to push it again. I like to do my best at doing things right – the correct form, etc.”  Diana C (knee injury)

The comment I hear the most often about Nordic pole walking, that absolutely makes my heart sing is, “I can do this!!!!” followed closely by the beautiful realizations, “I love how this makes my body feel!” “Wow, my body is changing!”

It’s amazing… the published medical research on the great effects that Nordic pole walking has on osteoporosis, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, etc, is based on the research subjects DOING TWO 30-MINUTE SESSIONS OF POLE WALKING PER WEEK!!! (We recommend 3 sessions or every other day as optimum.) You can do that! If you can walk, you can Nordic pole walk….it’s a total body exercise that you can do!

August 2013 “Last year I was given a set of poles but felt rather intimidated, so I relegated them to the back of the closet, sure I would use them “soon”. After relocating to Victoria, I read about Linda’s passion for Nordic pole walking and decided I needed to give the poles a chance. I’m so glad I did. Linda is a terrific teacher. She builds on each segment of instruction and, voila!, before you know it, you’re actually doing it! I instinctively knew that this was what I’d been looking for….an exercise that trumps walking; an exercises that uses 95+% of the body’s muscle groups; an exercise that reaps maximum benefit with a 3x a week/30 minute walk commitment,; an exercise that will improve my posture, balance, and general well-being. Everyone can do this. I’m nearing 70, recovering from an illness, and in poor shape. After two weeks I notice subtle changes like increased energy and more flexibility, I’m now hopeful that I can make a long-distance flight next spring, something I thought I would never be able to do again. Thanks for your encouragement, Linda.” Rebecca Kool

“I wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying the poles, the pain in my arthritic knees has gone down considerably. I completed the “Goddess Run” 5K walk using the poles. I had stopped registering for these kind of events because I never knew if my knees could take it, come the day of the race. My dog is being cooperative as well, it was easier for him and my husband to get used to me using the poles than I had expected. Thank you.” Brenda Bonde

APRIL 24, 2013 Dear Linda, Nordixx Master Instructor in Victoria, BC.

“You asked me to put into writing the observations I shared with you today at the health fair regarding your massage. When I was assessing your musculature I was quite impressed by the strength and definition of the muscles along your spine. I generally find that amount of development only in men, rarely in women. Your exercise regime of pole walking certainly shows in the way your body has laid down muscle and maintained a straight posture. Your erectors will keep you standing straight for a lifetime! Cheers,” Patty Disbrow Massage Therapist, Victoria BC, (pattydisbrow@gmail.com)

APRIL 16, 2013 “I am continuing to feel well and blood pressure dropping very well and weight loss continues to keep at steady 130…” John Reid

MARCH 28, 2013 “I have been pole walking for 2+1/2 weeks now; usually 3 times a week for 30 minutes; twice I walked for 1 hour. I am feeling a bit more energy on the days I walk. I had some stiffness on the morning for the first two weeks but very little now. I am 4lbs lighter as well. I measure my heart rate at the end of each walk and am now able to get it up to my range for my age as of this week. My breathing is getting easier and I’m improving my “form-a-la-Linda” the more practice I get. I really enjoy the social aspect of “walking and talking”; the time seems to go more quickly and I am enjoying getting to know some delightful new people – BONUS! I love being outdoors and this is the perfect exercise for me that way too. I’ve started taking my poles with me everywhere and using them whenever I am walking now. I’m grateful to have found Nordic Pole Walking; I can’t imagine getting this much benefit doing any other exercise just 3 times a week for 30-40 minutes.” Patricia Henderson

MARCH 18, 2013 “Hi Linda: I took your Nordixx introductory course at the Yakamovich Centre in June, 2012 and later at Beacon Hill Park. I’ve become the most unlikely enthusiast of pole walking at the age of 70. Having had no interest in sporting activity for all my life, I now average from three to five walks per week and I can vouch for the fact that strength, stamina and balance have improved, as has my Type One diabetes I’ve been contending with for 60 years. Unfortunately the frustrating battle of the bulge continues with no discernible improvement whatsoever yet! I encourage everyone in their retirement years who feel increased physical activity is not realistic (like I did!) to try pole walking. If you can stand, you can pole walk.” Arthur Penson

LINDA SAYS, People LOVE the immediate hands-on instruction of a real live instructor who can answer every question, and solve every problem. However, check out this teaching video from Nordixx Canada with whom I work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roOUhYQLpc0 It looks easy; it becomes easy once you get the hang of it. The most effective way to “get the hang of it” is to take an INTRO lesson with Linda. Click on Classes & Courses, scroll to the Calendar and click on the next INTRO class for full details.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS ARE SAYING ABOUT NORDIC POLE WALKING:

“Hi Linda, thank you soooo much! My Mom was still beaming from her session when I got home. Giving her a private lesson with you was definitely the best gift I could ever get her. All the best to you and your family this holiday season and always. Thanks again, Monique”

“Hello Linda: I too wanted to thank you again for a wonderful introduction to this sport of Nordic Pole Walking. I loved it and I feel the difference today! Your enthusiastic and professional manner made me feel at ease and your approach is quite infectious. Can’t wait to get some poles and sign up for a three day session. Thanks again”, Jo-Anna C.

Oct 1/12 “Hi Linda, I got the official weigh in at my doctor’s office & I am down 8 pounds in 1 month from pole walking!!! Thank-you!! Lorna :o)!!” ” OMG!!!! Good goin’ Lorna! Think where you will be in one year from now! Your attitude to stay in action, and explore options, and be persistent,… is life changing. Successful people have successful habits! Now how to share with others….? Linda S”

“Hi Linda. For me, the development of my ability with pole walking, under your tutelage, seems to be happening in direct proportion to the sense of a walking meditation. There are beginning to be moments of transcendence in the concentration of how-to-do-it already, and it has been less than two weeks since the introductory session and one followup lesson! This has been most unexpected.” Laura F.

Linda says, A Nordic pole walk participant dropped by to pick up more pole boot tips. I remember exactly the first time he tried Nordic pole walking. When he started I was afraid he would fall down since he has some wobbly disease. He flailed his way down the trail going through the 6 steps to learn how to pole walk, and at the end declaired that he “Loved it. It was something he could DO!” Today, Dec 18, 2012, he looks great: trimmer, better posture, more energetic field, steadier on his feet, and a giant smile! He has been Nordic pole walking almost every day! Not only that, he has started a Nordic pole walking group at his medical support ass’n, booked me to come there, and now wants to start a pole walk group in his neighbourhood. The best part though, is that his main motivation for exercising was to be able to dance at the SnowBird parties. He goes to his first party next week! Thank you Creator for lining everything up so I am Nordixx Canada Master Pole Walk Instructor!”

“I have gotten out most days in the week to practice and love every minute of it. It seems as though this is what human beings are meant to do naturally. I look forward to next week’s instruction, as I have found that the more correctly I do it, the more relaxed and confident I become with it. The tension I felt in my back after the first lesson is now gone and with this week’s lesson I seem to have corrected the effort/tension I had been infusing into my technique. This has made a huge difference in the enjoyment of this simple activity. I recommend Nordic Pole Walking to anyone who can walk!” Laura F.

“Hello Linda, I just wanted to thank you for the thoughtful and thorough way you instructed me in the use of my urban walking poles on Monday. I had no idea how much new information I would learn. “Hi Linda. I went for a lovely walk yesterday down around Saxe Point area. I concentrated first on keeping my elbows straight and then when I seemed to have that under control then I concentrated on pushing down on the glove and for the first time really felt like I was doing it right (for the better part of the walk anyway). Still not perfect but starting to get the hang of it. Looking forward to Thursday.” Heather
