SUMMER HOLIDAYS FOR LINDA!  HURRAY!

I’ve got August fun planned for me;  every weekend I will be at a beach, watching a movie, and listening to some musical event.  Nice!  In addition, I have the time and energy to up my fitness by pole walking 5 early mornings each week, and pole walking with my club, PoleCats, on Saturday.  I want to reach September with my energy batteries filled up.

LEARN CLASSES

Daytime:  Tuesdays at 1:30pm near Spinnakers pub

Evening:  Wednesdays at 6:30pm near Spinnakers pub.

Try Pole Walking to see if you like it and discover the style that works best for you.  Class fee $20, and use class poles.  At the end of this class, you can buy a *3-LESSON Learn Bonus Punch Card for three MORE lessons.  Save 50%  It usually takes four lessons to get really confident with your style.

BOOTCAMP COURSE

Evening:  Tuesdays at 6:30pm near Spinnakers pub. 8 sessions $97

By the end of this course your poling technique will be excellent, and you will feel stronger.  Your pant size might be looser, and your neck/shoulders feeling destressed.  Each night we do the rubber band strength circuit/ poling improvement three times, followed by a relaxing pole walk to soak in the scenery and socialize a bit.  Schedules are always busy; you don’t need to be present for all 8 sessions to become excellent!

TEST YOUR SKILL & EARN EXCELLENCE PIN

CRITERIA FOR bird of EXCELLENCE PIN
1.  Upper Arm (Piston) Swinging to the back consistently.  (Could be swinging 50/50 to 30/70)
2.  Rubber tip spontaneously springing into air consistently at end of arm swing and replanting itself (as a consequence of swinging arm back with sufficient power)
3.  Hands relaxed. (May stabilize handle by pinching handle with base of thumb and first finger, but all fingers must stay off handle and be relaxed).

After a warm up, each person will walk by video camera.
Then all candidates will be analyzed by Linda
as everyone watches video replay together.
Linda will be looking for good technique in the three points above.
Successful candidates will be those who consistently
demonstrate good form on all three points during this video,
and will be awarded bird pin of EXCELLENCE
immediately after having an individual photo taken by Linda.

www.nordicpolewalkingvictoria.ca under tab EXCELLENCE.

NORDIC STYLE POLE WALKING LOOKS LIKE THIS!

Elegant, in alignment, powerful yet relaxed,  easy on the feet/knees/hips, and using 90% of the body’s muscles for maximum calorie burn and health benefits.  IT SHOULD LOOK EASY, RELAXED, EFFORTLESS.  You can’t see that 90% of my muscles are working, and that the “workload” is actually huge!  It is a very unique exercise. Like every new skill it takes time/practice to make it look smooth and easy.

Note:  My legs and arms are much longer than yours, and my stride length is longer than many people.  So don’t be fooled!  The key point to focus on in this video is that my arm swings from the shoulder, with mounting pressure, “to the back wall”  with every swing.  The pole tip responds by lifting itself up and replanting.  I am completely relaxed and have learned how to apply force effectively.  Look at how relaxed my hands are.

Many people see this video and think they can grab poles and just do it.  HOWEVER, IF YOU WANT TO MAXIMIZE THE BENEFITS OF THIS EXERCISE, take a LEARN LESSON (or PRIVATE LESSON) to see if you like Nordic Pole Walking, then join the BOOTCAMP (when offered)  to strengthen the right muscles and practice all the details to learn this SKILL.
